Dannevirke Memory Walk postponed until February
Alzheimers Manawatu reluctantly postponed the Memory Walk in Dannevirke planned for September 23 because Covid alert level 2 restrictions still made its running pretty tricky according to its manager Tracy Lynn, especially as Dannevirke’s is so well supported that numbers could easily exceed 100 and social distancing even in The Hub could be a challenge. Its website had the following invitation before the event was postponed last week: Now the event is planned for early February 2022 but the work of Alzheimers Manawatu through its Marion Kennedy Club is starting up. These meetings are a vital part of the work of Alzheimers Manawatu as Marion Kennedy Club members get guidance and skills to help cope with dementia which can help delay the process. They also get to meet other dementia sufferers. Most importantly carers get help and respite one day per week in Dannevirke to go about the things they need to do but cannot. There is no cure for dementia and Alzheimers Manawatu is determined to make a difference to those affected. The walk is one other way attention can be drawn to its impact and gain funding for its vital work.
